The big summer music festivals are a memory but there is still a world of music to be experienced. We at annabelle have compiled a list of music happenings this fall and winter that are sure to get your foot a-tappin'!

BIG WILLIE STYLE
If you were lucky enough to be incarcerated at Folsom Prison on January 13, 1968, you would have seen a legendary performance by Johnny Cash. Now that Johnny is gone, the only place you will see him live is at the Big House In The Sky.

The passing of Mr. Cash was a sad reminder that there are only a few of the old legends of country left—including Willie Nelson, who, despite turning 70 this year, is on the road again. The two-braided granddaddy of the Nashville Sound is kicking it old school this fall on his national tour:

MEET THE BEETLES
Oh, to be young and in college buying expensive Volkswagens. The marketing division of VW has plotted the invasion of 20 college campuses to show the kids how to be cool without doing any of the hard work. Start with fake tattoos, then give lessons on being a DJ, and have a concert with a couple of sold-out-to-the-man indie bands (The Ataris and Vendetta Red) and you have boiled the whole college experience down to the essentials. I do admit that VW makes wickedly cool cars, but must the process of being cool be so formulaic? Buy a cheap VW Bus and go see School of Rock instead.

BEAUTY SCHOOL DROPOUTS
Since 1959, Harmony Inc. has promoted the art of four-part a cappella singing in the barbershop style. If you thought that barbershop quartets were for men only, think again. Harmony Inc. is for women and these ladies are serious about their barbershop performance and, it seems, the overuse of jazz hands.

BRING IT ON
The Bands of America Grand National Championship is the largest high school band competition in the country. I'm sure there is a report out there that says kids are less likely to do drugs, shoot up their high schools, and bob their hair if they participate in music and arts in school. Give your kid a clarinet, not a gun! Make music not love! Twirl a baton, not an AK-47!

CHRISTMAS AT GRACELAND
Graceland is America's Mecca. The strange and commercial world created by Elvis has been hermetically sealed for the ages just the way Elvis left it. During the holiday season, the curtains at Graceland go from blue to red velvet and full-size nativity scenes décorate the lawns, just the way Elvis used to décorate it. (Be sure to check the holiday schedule of house tours. As famously discovered by me, my sisters, and my future brother-in-law after a nine-hour drive to Memphis, Graceland is closed on Tuesdays from November through February.)
